Atlantic City International Airport

Atlantic City International is a much unknown airport to the conventional US traveller, used to airports which handle tens of millions of passengers every year, this airport is not one of them. With fairly small passenger numbers, the airport is set for development in future years, but its main focus continues to be a non-civilian home for the following institutions:
  • New Jersey Air National Guard Fighter Wing (177th),
  • US Coast Guard Air Station
  • FAA Tech Center
  • TSA Federal Air Marshal national training center.

Atlantic City International is located in New Jersey, United States of America and carries the airport code (ICAO) KACY. After landing on one of the two runways passengers adjust their watches upon arrival to UTC-5 (-4DT).

The civilian service of this airport is minimal though, with four main non-stop destinations of Boston, Florida, Atlanta, and Toronto. The management market the connections available as covering much of the United States and Central America, however many of these flights are only obtainable through connecting flight hubs.

It is not an experience which is open to a huge number of air travellers, since in 2006 only 916,000 passengers have landed at Atlantic City.

For civilian passengers the main selling points are in fact the small scale of Atlantic City, and the inverse benefits this brings when compared against a higher-status International airport. These predominantly being; smaller crowd numbers, reduced queueing, lower transit times to the gates, and availability of low cost carriers in the absence of premium brand airlines.

Specifically, these airlines flying from Atlantic City International include AirTran, Spirit Airlines, and West Jet.

Future development for the Airport is minimal, but presently the planning of airfield construction projects are underway, with bids for improved aircraft rescue and fire fighting stations, plus a new law enforcement building too.
